Description
Peat is a heterogeneous mixture of partially decomposed plant residues, which is formed in conditions of an abundance of water and a lack of oxygen. It is non-toxic, natural, highly breathable and water-retaining material. Peat can have both a residual plant structure of varying degrees of decomposition, and a finely amorphous structure. Contains humic acids, growth and development stimulants, amino acids, which are necessary in order to make certain nutrients more available to plants. Peat has bactericidal properties. It can be used effectively as a base for any type of potting mix intended for growing seedlings and ornamental flowers. Can be used to improve the physical properties of any soil. Improves soil structure. Enriches infertile and sandy soils. Increases water holding capacity on light sandy soils. Contains many nutrients necessary for plant life, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and other trace elements. Improves the permeability of heavy loams, allowing roots to breathe and grow. It provides the roots with essential elements such as water, air and nutrients. Peat is used for growing, mulching and fertilizing all kinds of crops, ornamental and fruit trees, berries and seedlings.
