Description
"Crowds and Power" (1960) is perhaps the most famous work of the classic of Austrian and English literature of the 20th century, writer, playwright, philosopher, sociologist and cultural scientist, Nobel Prize winner Elias Canetti (1905-1994), his main work, on which the author worked for about 35 years. On the one hand, it is directly connected with the philosophical works of authors who studied the social behavior of the masses (Gustave Le Bon, José Ortega y Gasset), and on the other hand, with the psychoanalytic experience of Sigmund Freud, who studied the relationship between the masses and the individual. Combining philosopher and scientist (he was a doctor of philosophy at the University of Vienna), Canetti in this book nevertheless remains a writer and an esthetician, skillfully using historical, mythological, rich ethnographic and psychological material and creating a literary monument whose charm lies not only in its comprehensive knowledge and laconic language, but also in its fidelity to the classical values of humanism.
