The Adventures of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

Oliver Twist is a boy whose mother died in childbirth. He grows up in a parish orphanage, where living conditions are very poor. Hungry peers make him ask for more food. For such stubbornness, the director sells him to gravediggers, where Oliver is bullied by junior foremen. After a fight with a junior foreman, Oliver runs away to London, where he falls in with a young pickpocket nicknamed the Cunning Deceiver. At the head of the robber's den is the cunning and insidious Jew Fagin. They are joined by a cold-blooded killer and robber Bill Sikes. His 17-year-old friend Nancy sees a kindred spirit in Oliver and shows him kindness.
