Book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach

The main character of the book, Genevieve, who lives in Ohio, is seduced by Senator Brander. Brander promises to marry Jenny. It so happens that Jenny soon becomes pregnant, and Brander dies. After the birth of the child, Jenny and her family move to Cleveland, where she gets a job as a maid for a wealthy lady.
