Description

"Treasure Island" is an adventure novel by Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson about the search for treasure hidden by the pirate Flint on a desert island. First published in 1883, it was previously published as a separate pamphlet in the children's magazine "Young Folks" in 1881-1882.

The novel consists of thirty-four chapters, divided into six parts. The story is told from the point of view of the main character, young Jim Hawkins, the son of the tavern owner (with the exception of chapters 16-18, where the narrator is Dr. Leeves).

One day, a new guest, former marine Billy Bones, settles in the tavern. After some time, strange guests begin to visit him. The first to appear is a former pirate nicknamed Black Grunt, an old acquaintance of Billy's. They argue, and Bones wounds Black Grunt, but the latter escapes. Then a blind and poor Pew comes to Billy and gives him the Black Mark - a terrible warning from pirates to leaders who violate the interests of the crew. Billy, having received the sign, decides to leave this place immediately, but suddenly dies of a stroke. Jim and his mother, to whom Billy owes money for housing, search the dead sailor and his things. At the bottom of his chest, they find money and a pack of papers. These documents reveal that Bones was the captain's mate on the ship of the famous pirate Flint and has a map of the island where Flint hid his treasures ...
