Julian Barnes' novel Flaubert's Parrot, published in 1986, attempts to reveal the true role of the writer in the creative process. Based on the biography of the classic French writer Gustave Flaubert, Julian Barnes poses the following priority questions: what is more important to the reader: the author's books or his biography? If books, then why do people tend to follow their tracks to study even the smallest details of the writer's biography, why are they sure that even a parrot can become the key to understanding Gustave Flaubert's literature with all its secrets?
