Description
Hiragana is one of the written forms of Japanese, along with katakana, kanji, Arabic numerals, and romaji. Together, hiragana and katakana form the kana system, in which one character represents one syllable. Kana characters can represent a vowel (e.g., a, あ), be paired with a consonant that precedes the vowel (e.g., ta, た), or with the nasal vowel n, which, depending on the context, can sound like n, m, English ng, or French nasal consonants.
