Description
This novel (1895) by the greatest Spanish writer of the 19th century, Benito Pérez Galdós, belongs to the series of "spiritual novels". Catalina de Artal, Countess of Alma-Lottemberg, a model of piety, mercy, virtue and obedience, having lost her beloved husband, decides to devote herself to charity. Dissatisfied with the social order of her time and the noble class to which she belongs, she plans to create a unique religious-agricultural community and enters into a stubborn struggle with the nobility to achieve her goal.
